Physical Expectations
Marching band is a physical activity that is very strenuous. Students must be able to safely walk for more than an hour without stopping.
Students will stretch and do cardiovascular activity with and without instruments and must be willing and able to do so.
Rehearsal Expectations
Students must come to all performances ready to perform.

Students who miss more than 3 instances or rehearsals will need to have a discussion with staff and parents to discuss expectations and will not be allowed to come back to the activity until the meeting is set.

Students are expected to communicate with staff regarding any possible conflicts as soon as they arise.
​
Students are allowed to coordinate marching band with other activities (re: leaving early, coming late, etc)
All communication must be in writing with a minimum of 24 hours notice

Students who work are expected to communicate the entire seasons performances at the beginning of the season to allow for coordination.
​
Students who miss performances due to work conflicts will be asked to leave the group
​
Students must be proactive regarding transportation to and from Brigade events including rehearsals and performances.
Please talk with other families and students regarding potential carpools
Band Expectations
Band:
Concert Bb scale- minimum of 1 octave
Chromatic scale on instrument- minimum of 1 octave
Ability to read music and sight read (not needing to write in note names)
Ability to subdivide up to sixteenth notes
Ability and willingness to memorize music
Drums:
Ability to read eighth and sixteenth notes
Ability to play the following rudiments: paradiddles, flams, flam taps and a 5 stroke roll
Ability and willingness to memorize music
Colorguard:
Ability to follow directions
Physical stamina to use flags/implements
Ability and willingness to count and memorize routines
Dance or gymnastics experience is a plus, but not required. We’ll teach you all you need to know.
